Acknowledgments

In the acknowledgments for the first book about the sisters of the Order of Saint Rita, I wrote that no book is possible alone. That is doubly true for Sisters of the Forsaken Stars, which was begun in one world and finished in another—from the early days of 2020 to sometime mid-2021. This past year and change has included both some of the greatest successes and greatest sadnesses of my life, and I could not have gotten through it without the people in my life.

It would be impossible to name everyone who was important to me during such an extraordinary time, but the sorely incomplete list includes: my friends, both those old enough to feel like family and those new enough to surprise me all the time; the queer SFF writers who have helped me find a community and also taught me so much; my work colleagues, both the mentors and those who just offered me a lot of slack in a weird time; the various experts who answered my questions about slugs or space or niche theology; the readers who sent me kind notes about Sisters of the Vast Black, which meant more than they could know; and of course, the creators behind the books, music, and art that I turned to through this year.

There are also a number of people on the publishing side whose hard work built this book from an idea to the copy in your hands, including many whose names and contributions I don’t know.
